You’re doing what?!

You’re doing what?!

October, breast cancer, halloween, fire, safetyYou’re doing what?! What you should do this month – keep reading.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month & Fire Safety Month – and what about your safety plan.

Since October is the month for safety, let’s consider a few things. For our own protection, we (ladies) should be doing breast self-exams and getting a mammogram.  You want to be safe at home so we need to replace batteries in your smoke detector(s) and / or carbon monoxide detectors.

And I’ll add one more thing to being safe at home is a PLAN of action. Just in case there is a fire or worse, home invasion.

This includes several things, for example your escape plan if there is a fire. Having a plan in place before the emergency is the better than trying to develop a plan amidst the chaos. Prevention is key. So, delegate a “job” to members of the family. For example, whose job will it be to get the pets out. Once you cover who will do what, and how you get out of a burning house, there’s another kind of escape plan to develop.

Do you have a plan in case of a home invasion? It might be the same as your fire route, but this month lets look at some other things for safety’s sake.

I’m sure you have probably heard it many times before, every bullet has your name on it. If you haven’t heard that before, no time like now to understand it, especially as it relates to your home defense plan and or your everyday carry weapon (EDC) if you concealed carry.

October is also a good time to shoot some home defense rounds down range. I know it’s expensive, but its good practice to shoot some rounds down range ever now and then.

These rounds are different than your range ammo and will feel differently in your hand. If you have recently purchased a new firearm and haven’t shot home defense ammo through your gun, you may want to refer to manufacturer’s suggestion in the manual. However, you like a different type of ammunition or manufacturer than suggested and you’ll want to make sure your gun “likes” it. We all have our preferences, ya know, even the pistol.

You should consideration the “what if” scenario.

What if I have to discharge my weapon in the house? The primary responsibility of the home defender is to strike the target.  But, what if, you failed to stop the threat? Let’s say you missed a vital organ that would stop the suspect or due to extreme stress you missed the target all together? WHERE does that bullet stop? How far will that projectile penetrate?

This is why you don’t use range ammo for home / self-defense. Range ammo, typically full metal jacket (FMJ) bullet will penetrate and go beyond your target!  Yes, it would go through the sofa or a TV. It should be no surprise that (range) bullets (including slugs or buckshot) will go through the suspect and sheetrock (walls).

So, what ammo should you be using for home / self- defense? That’s a good question, and it will likely vary for each person.

Since we are thinking about our safety this month, it seems logical to consider our personal safety tools too. Do you concealed carry? Do you practice drawing from cover? Does your ccwp (concealed carry weapons permit) need to be renewed? When was  the last time you checked that?

Do you have a bug-out or a get home bag?

This is a great time to consider these additional things to be safe at home and away.

Hello Fall!

Hello Fall!

The Calendar says its Fall, but the thermometer says differently!

Oh, there’s signs of Fall such as the leaves are beginning to turn and fall, and some mornings are cooler temps. Hey, if you are experiencing some fall weather, let us know! It may be time to take a Road Trip!

Another sign that Fall is near – Football Season. Bring out those team colors for the weekend Game day parties. With cooler nights, you’ll want to layer your clothing with Sweatshirts or Sweaters this time of year…. and that makes it easier to concealed carry!

So, If you’ve been thinking about concealed carrying, this is the perfect time to start.Fall, seasons, calendar

I know it’s scary – but these bulky loose fitting tops are perfect to begin building your confidence for carrying on body! Really, no one will notice your concealing a firearm under your sweatshirt. Stop fidgeting with the holster; it’s made to stay in place and securely hold your firearm.

Just remember, the more you develop the habit and practice it; the less you will feel like your announcing that you are packin’ heat.

travel, football, weekend

So if your weekend plans include a Road Trip for a great football weekend or just for Fall Scenery, here are a few fashion trends to keep you in style and Gun Chic!

Fashion Show Goes on…

Well, this week has been quite the roller coaster! So much is happening! As I spent time carefully packing for a road trip to attend the NRA Carry Guard Expo, Hurricane Florence was preparing as well.

It’s unfortunate the event had to be cancelled, however, the concern to keep everyone safe is priority number 1.

NRA

storm, hurricane, Florence, N.Carolina, S. Carolina, Va, Myrtle Beach, Outter Banks

Not only for those attending or exhibiting for a 3 day show for the concealed carry individual or those concerned with what and how to defend their home; including everything in between. The Carolina’s don’t need thousands more people in an area that’s desperately trying to escape an major natural event like Hurricane Florence!

Our prayers go out to those who (perhaps reluctantly) left everything behind to flee to safety. Prayers are lifted up for all the First Responders who have moved into the area to help save life and render aid. Pulling together in time of crisis – this is what America is about! THANK YOU to all these folks.

As the outlook doesn’t look so great for the many folks in the storms path, please  remember to pray for them throughout the coming weeks. It will be a long process.

I know it can be hard to break away from the coverage and devastation, but if you click the link below, the NRA has put together some of what you would have seen during the fashion show event that would be taken place pretty soon!

Next week is another opportunity to see a CONCEALED CARRY FASHION SHOW!

Cheryl Todd, host of Gun Freedom Radio, will be demonstrating and modeling our Lion + Lamb top in Friday’s Fashion Show.

This is a great event surrounding our 2 Amendment to “Keep and Bear Arms”; to learn & understand about Concealed carry, firearms, the good works of Second Amendment Foundation, plus networking and interacting with media.
