Is your Mother hard to buy for? Check out our list

The month of May – that means “Mother’s Day”  – Is your mother hard to buy for?  Do you feel like she already has everything? I’d guess you’re not alone. Here’s a hint to help you not to feel overwhelmed; don’t think  about “buying her things” or “presents”; buy her something that says she’s loved and appreciated!

After all, this is the woman who gave you life; brought you into this world and met your every need as a baby. How do you show your mother you love her and say “Thank you” for all she’s sacrificed.  You want this gift to be special; just like her! You want to make her day joyous. You want her to feel loved.

We all have a different “love language” and speaking directly to her language is how to score big on Mother’s special day! We want you to succeed this year on Mother’s Day!

Here’s some ideas to make Mom feel like special

Spend some real quality time with her.

What you do doesn’t matter as much as the time spent in fellowship. Ask Mom what she did for her mother for Mother’s Day when she was young. Chances are your mom will start to smile and begin telling some great stories you never knew of and perhaps some fun facts about your own Mother that you will treasure.

Having been a single Mom for many years when my children were young; I’d strongly suggest an act of service such as doing the chores… at least what you can do. Does the carpet need vacuuming? What about dusting or washing the dishes? Sometimes, simply asking to be of service to her, will make her day. If your mother lives out of town from you, what about hiring a cleaning group to do the cleaning for her.

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures!

Mom’s remember most everything, but to have a picture of when … happened… is truly “PRICELESS”.  Art has been of value for years, century’s even. Why? Its how we pass on tradition and value. Photographs are a way to remember family history, to capture memories from special trips, vacations, accomplishments of our children – the things that are important at the heart of us and a way to know more of who we are.

There’s a reason we have a “Scrapbook” is around. If your Mother is like mine, and like me, we treasure the pictures! Here’s  an idea for the Mom who loves pictures and scrapbooking.

Of course, we couldn’t leave out teaching Mom a new skill! Take your mom to the gun range! We’re never too old to learn a new skill, especially one that could save your life! We have pepper sprays (OC spray) and  personal alarms that are great to attach to a key chain for less lethal devices for protection.

On the road – The life of a designer traveling with a firearm

On the road – The life of a designer traveling with a firearm

People often ask me, what goes on behind the scenes of a trade show as a vendor or exhibitor, instead of attending?

Let me share with you what challenges I discovered as I got ready to head to Louisville for the 4th annual concealed carry expo and traveling with a firearm.

First off, let me say there is A LOT of planning that happens in advance of the “big event”.

tradeshow, display, guns, purses, For me, that also meant “how” was I going to get there. Do I drive and haul all of my displays and merchandise? Do I ship it? Since I can’t run home to get what ever I might have forgotten (assuming it’s not a replaceable item like toothpaste) thorough planning must ensue.

So, the biggest and most important thing right now is planning- There’s a lot to plan for.

Do you need directions? What about your cell phone and GPS? Lets say there’s a possibility of losing a cell signal; then what? Should you print out directions-just in case? And, perhaps the biggest question in planning for a trade show, will it all fit?

1. Will it all fit in whatever vehicle your driving or towing

2. Will it all fit in your booth space.

I recommend a scaled drawing of anticipated display arrangement. However, it’s always good to have a back up plan…Because, something, most likely not go as planned. ‘That’ is something you can plan on.

If you are flying, also consider how to get from airport to hotel and to the venue. Should you rent a car or Uber? Flying with a firearm can be a hassle and time consuming for security checks. Make sure to give yourself extra time. Running late is not good idea in this scenario.

Now, what about getting to your final destination? what about the states’ reciprocity laws? Does this state recognize your home states ccw permit? Not only do you need to know ccw laws where you are going, but don’t forget about the state(s) you have to travel through to get there.

What if you have to stop for gas or food? Can you take the gun out of the car? What if you get stopped by police? Should you mention you have a gun?

There are several great resources such as USCCA reciprocity map or guns to carry just to name a few. Remember to verify the type of ammunition that can be used in that state. Hollow points aren’t allowed everywhere. We still have some work to do, folks.

Now, what about the Hotel. This wasn’t an issue since the hotel had a block of rooms reserved for this specific concealed carry event. But let’s suppose, you were traveling by yourself for work, and the hotel wasn’t expecting the majority of their guest to have firearms; Do you ask the hotel about their firearms policy? Will this draw unwanted attention, or concern? I’d suggest you look at the hotels website or google the hotel chain to find it’s firearm policy before securing reservations.

Now, what to pack? We realize this can drive a man insane, but women will always over pack. We want to look good A

ND have the right outfit – we’re women after all! It’s about looking good, feeling good and being comfortable. This is not an easy accomplishment in the world of gun toten’ fashion. Here’s a great looking top and it conceals!

This may be the biggest challenge of the whole trip for some. This is one reason why we created Incognito Wear IX, and our tag line: Never be a victim because of style.

This point happens to be highlighted in Kevin Michalowki’s Editor’s Shot: Fashion & Function article in this months’ issue of USCCA Concealed Carry Magazine.

concealed, carry, guns, training, holsters, guns, gear, AR-15

“This (April 2018) edition of USCCA Concealed Carry Magazine focuses on comfort and style, components of the bigger concealed carry picture…When all those (items) are in place, you then have the chance to think about your comfort and style. It might be the last thing on the list, but it is still on the list, because anything that keeps you from carrying a gun every day could be the thing that gets you killed when an attacker chooses you.” www.USCCA.com/April – page 8

Ultimately, whenever you leave the house, the goal is to arrive safely to wherever it is you’re headed. Whether it’s for a trade show, work, or errands, the goal is to come home safely. That’s why we carry, practice, train and why we are designing clothes for the concealed carry market. To stay safe and stay out of the news…

I believe the recent news dialog of “gun violence” is one huge reason why events like the Concealed Carry Expo are happening and being successful. Thank you to the USCCA for hosting the “Concealed Carry Expo” and to all the wonderful folks we meet over the 3 day event in Louisville, Ky. A special Thank you to Beth Alcazar, Editor of the Concealed Carry Women’s Section.

Just remember as you plan your next vacay – research the concealed carry laws getting to and where your final destination will be. Your family’s safety is your own responsibility and you’re doing something about it. Good for you!

Tell us how you travel with your firearm in the comment section below, we can all learn from each other.

Never be a victim because of style. Be armed, Be beautiful and Gun Chic.

Jan

P.S. This trip was especially rewarding as I got to spend time with my sister, Lynne Tanner of FL. and meet up with a high school classmate and her family. Thanks Louisville ?. Hope to see you at the next one!

Be armed, beautiful and Gun Chic with Incognito Wear IX!

Are you troubled about all the gun talk?

Are you troubled by the news lately?

Not sure what to believe; how to feel about the recent school shooting in Florida? Trying to make heads or tails out of the revolving reports, mis information, and talk of gun control?

There is one thing we should all understand upfront, that is we cannot control evil

… or people (though some may try).

It is hard to understand evil and evil acts. It’s tragic what happened in Parkland, Fl. at Stoneman Douglas High school. No dispute. Let’s take a break for all the reports, blame, hysteria and hype! What we need is time to deal with the sorrow, pain and loss… and a huge break from the blame game! Sometimes in life there aren’t solutions or answers.

I offer prayers for all those who have been affected and are suffering.

So, in order to move forward and protect our loved one; what we CAN DO as responsible human beings?

First off, and it’s probably obvious to most of you, all of us must take responsibility for our own safety. It’s not my job to guard you. I can however, share information that is helpful and can teach you how to be safe. It’s teaching you ‘how to fish’ (so you can then thrive on your own) and not just feeding you.

In case you missed it, click this link for simple safety tips that could save your life.

Times have changed… for good or not so good. What can you do to avoid becoming a victim? How can you stay safe? How do you protect your loved ones? Can we escape crime?

The best way and easiest way to stay safe is to be aware of your surroundings. We are lucky in this country to also have the power to protect ourselves, our homes, and property by the second amendment right. It’s your right to arm yourself if you so choose. There are other good options available as well as pepper spray (OC spray), knives, stun guns or tasers, personal alarms that are loud enough to scare anyone.

I suspect we agree that we want to keep these rights, but just because some don’t want to bear arms, doesn’t mean that you and I should no longer have the option. Luckily, we are a lot alike. I’m not a professional shooter, I’m not a TV talk personality, I don’t have any famous connections or know any celebrities, I’m just someone who wants to protect myself by concealed carrying, on body.

I want to look beautiful, sexy, and stylish even while carrying a firearm.

Please in light of these heated talks, political powerful stronghold special interest groups, reach out to your Senators and Representatives to tell them how you feel about the discussion on gun control, ASAP.

Don’t be troubled, there are solutions. Get some training in protecting yourself and loved ones. Your local gun range is a great place to start in learning about firearms, gun safety, practice shooting and understand your responsibilities should you decide to carry.

God speed!

XO,

Jan
