Hey, the weather’s turning warming and the days are longer and that means Spring Break with the family is upon us. The kids will be out of school soon and thankfully the traffic will better for those of us who are staying put… or for those who have to work.
Either way, one thing we’re all attached to these days and we don’t want to forget wherever we go is our phone. And not just because we feel lost without our phones or that we can’t scroll social media and we might miss a text from a loved one, but it’s actually more about the risk exposure to our privacy than the inconvenience of being “phone-less”.
Here are a few safety features to enable before you head out of town. We need to be cautious of data breaches, stolen identity and our personal privacy. With so much of our lives turning digital, this should be more of a priority than not.
1. Enable theft protection on your phone such as “find my phone” and Theft Protection or Enable Stolen device. These settings can be found in your main phone setting. If your phone detects it’s been stolen (ie quick movement away and changes of Wi-Fi connections) the phone with lock, keeping your data away from the theft.
2.Turn on advanced data protection.
“Apple encrypts iCloud data like photos and messages, while Googles Advanced Protection secures sensitive Android data. Ensure your device is updated and enable these options in account settings.” from Technology Times.
3. Use a Passkey or Biometrics to access your phone to eliminate password risks.
Taking a few steps to protect yourself before your trip will ensure your date stays safe while you’re enjoying your Spring Break or where ever you’re traveling. We must know have to consider all possible ways in staying safe.
I love people. I love helping people. I love teamwork and want everyone to feel welcomed to the party! I want to make life easier, simpler, and save you from the hard knocks, if possible.
In these posts, I’ll share stories, humor, shooting tips, and some tough lessons learned in the hopes of sparing you the tough hard lessons or embarrassment on the range. Welcome to our debut post – the holster’s supposed to stay put!
Can you imagine my surprise when drawing my firearm AND the holster can out with the gun?!
Some holster types
Of course, I wasn’t using one that went through my belt (like the two on the left in the photo above). I was using an IWB (Inside the Waistband holster).
But, this did actually happen to me! Fortunately, I was in a training class. But the point stuck with me.
How often do you test your gear?
Of course, let’s state the obvious – we are all hopeful that
we never have to or are in a situation where we are forced to draw our weapon.
That said, we should test our gear and especially if you have any new
purchases.
New gear like holsters
Over the weekend, my husband and I traveled to a friend’s
place where we were able to do a little shooting. Mostly, we were on a mission
to site in a rifle but took advantage of a sunny afternoon and an outside
shooting opportunity.
It was a great time shooting with my husband and I was able to try several different pistols from various sources. I was pleasantly surprised with the Sig Sauer P365. I was surprised at how well I shot it. As someone with small hands, finding an optional (carry or range) gun has proven to be challenging.
My current carry gun may become my back up carry firearm, so that leads to finding new holsters – one for a new backup location carry (for example, the ankle) and a new holster for my new carry pistol?.
So back to the main point of testing your gear – and before buying if at all possible.
When it comes to holsters, don’t forget a good belt. This is an important part of your gear. There are plenty of options available from leather to tactical belts. When choosing leather, look for a thick belt made for this purpose.
Be safe and don’t make the same mistakes.

How’s your summer going? Mostly hot, I bet. Summertime is great.
No agenda, you don’t have to deal with crazy hectic schedules; nor rushing through traffic to get the kids to practice, rehearsal, event or a game. Hopefully it’s a time you can spend with family.
Maybe you are planning to create a great summer adventure – or vacay somewhere new.
Many people use “Summertime” as a time to make new memories or check something off your “bucket list”.
Perhaps, it’s a time for personal growth and development; whether educational, getting back into a hobby or learning a new skill you’ve always wanted to.
Taking a class is a great way to meet new friends as well. Don’t be afraid to ask what is the age to be considered eligible for senior discounts.
Don’t forget to check your local Parks & Recreational on their summer programs, camps, and kid activities as well as adults.
Maybe your the type that needs a getaway. If your not a frequent flyer,
and if you plan to travel with your firearm, here’s a quick reminder list:
travel, worlds busiest airport, airports, city, getaways, trip, summer
Traveling with a firearm? DO make sure you carry your concealed weapons permit with you.
DO verify you are legal to carry in that state.
DO have TSA approved box and locks for storing empty / unloaded firearm.
DO keep ammo separate from said firearm.
DON’T leave a spare magazine in your purse or any loose ammo. It will be confiscated.
Verify you can bring a “personal item” IN ADDITION TO the carry-on bag. Not all airlines allow this. Try to stuff a lady’s purse inside the carry-on bag.
A light sweater, scarf or small throw – keeps the chill off
Phone charger. It’s amazing how quick that battery can drain.
A snack, fruit and or gum. It helps equalize the pressure.
Know where you are going. This seems simple but if you travel to a city where there are multiple airports, be clear on which airport gets you closest to your final destination.
Renting a vehicle? Again, know where you are going – which airport that it. And, double check once you’ve purchased airfare. In trying to get the best deal you may have gotten confused… Surprisingly, it’s a pretty common event reserve a car at one airport & then show up at the other one and they don’t have your reservation!

For me, it feels like summers are shorter. I imagine though there are still kids screaming “I’m bored” somewhere!
Are the kids really ready for “Back to school”?
It won’t be long before the nights become cooler, the days a little shorter and the leaves begin to fall.
